DHQ
What does the word
aerobic mean?
*Hint-
it is a type of exercise
How do muscles work and
create movement?
 Muscles turn energy into motion
 Everything you do is expressed as muscular motion
 The basic action of any muscle is contraction
 A muscle is a bundle of cells called fibers
 A muscle fiber contains myofibrils, which are cylinders
of muscle proteins
 The proteins allow a muscle cell to contract
 The contractions of all muscles are triggered by
electrical impulses
Continued……
 Muscles have a mixture of two basic types of fibers;
1.
Fast twitch muscle fibers – capable of developing
greater forces, contract faster, and have greater
anaerobic capacity

1.
What are some anaerobic activities?
2. Slow twitch muscle fibers – develop force slowly,
maintain contractions longer, and have higher
aerobic capacity

What are some aerobic activities?
Flexion
Bending parts at a joint
Examples:
 Bending at the knee and elbow,
bending head forward on the chest
Extension
Straightening parts at a joint
Examples:
Straightening the
leg, elbow, neck
Abduction
Moving a limb away from
the midline of the body.
Example:
Lifting the arm/leg horizontally away
from the body
Adduction
Moving a limb toward the
midline of the body.
Example:
Returning the arm/leg from the
horizontal position to the side of the
body.
Rotation
Moving a part around
an axis.
Example:
Twisting the head from side to
side and twisting the trunk from
side to side
