Variables Affecting Optimum Weight
Optimum Weight – The government health
department gives guidelines on what peoples
optimum weight should be. They take in to
consideration AGE, HEIGHT and GENDER. These
are only guidelines as the following variables can
have an effect.
Gender – Men’s and Woman’s physiological
structures are different. Men generally have more
muscle mass and there if the same height as a
woman weigh more. Impact on sport?
Height – The Taller you are the more you will
normally weigh. Impact on sport?
Bone Structure – Bones are like muscles and weigh
heavily. Therefore people with bigger bones structures
tend to weigh more. Impact on sport?
Muscle Girth – This refers to the circumference of the
muscle. The larger the circumference the greater the
weight.
Being the right weight is important for a number of
sports!
Terms Associated with Weight
Obese – People who are very overfat.
Overfat – Someone who has more body fat than they should have.
Overweight – People who have weight in excess of normal.
Underweight – Those who don’t have the recommended amount of
body fat.
Anorexia Nervosa – An eating disorder brought about through a
distorted impression of self image and low self-esteem. They will
starve themselves because they believe when they look in the
mirror they are fat.
All these terms are calculated inline with what the government
believes our weight should be for our age and height.
