Question
of
the
Week
What happens when your feet or body parts fall asleep? Why do
you sometimes feel “pins and needles” sometimes?
Usually happens when a body part has had prolonged pressure
• This cuts off communication from your brain to parts of your
body. The pressure squeezes nerve pathways so that the
nerves can't transmit electrochemical impulses properly.
• Pressure can also squeeze blood vessels cutting off blood
supply causing nerves to act abnormally
When you move again, the nerves are readjusting and this
causes the tingly sensation

• The fibers that transmit pain and temperature information are
relatively thin, so you feel the tingling situations pretty
quickly.
