What are Blood Borne Pathogens?
Microorganisms that are carried
in the blood that
can cause
disease in humans .

What are examples of Diseases caused by Blood Borne
Pathogens?
Malaria, Syphilis, Hepatitis B,
Hepatitis C, and HIV.

What is Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?
Anything that is used to protect
You from exposure to a BBP.

What is an exposure incident?
A specific incident of contact
between a potentially infectious
body fluid and an open
skin surface
or mucous membrane

What is HIV?
The virus the leads to AIDS,
depletes the immune system,
does not survive long
outside the body, and is not
transferred through
casual contact (ex. shaking hands).

What is hand washing?
The best way to keep yourself
Cold/flu free, must be done for
20 seconds, and must be done
After removing PPE.

What is Proper Decontamination?
Cleaning area with disinfectant or
10% bleach solution and
Disposing of all liquid medical
Waste in biohazard bags/containers.

Using proper personal protective
Equipment, treating ALL
Body fluids as contaminated

Disposing of body fluids
Appropriately.

The most common chronic
Blood borne infection in the U.S..
The infection attacks
the liver.

Do not have tears in them,
And removing your mask and
Gloves before exiting

IMMEDIATELY.

or ask Maintenance for
