Verbal and melodic hooks
A verbal hook is the memorable section of
the lyrics. This can sometimes be the title.
A verbal hook can also be made from
nonsense words, such as in the song,
De do do do, de da da da by The Police.
♫ Have a go at composing
your own verbal hook. ♫
A melodic hook is performed by the singers
or instrumentalists. It needs to contain pitch.
♫ Listen to this example,
then compose your own. ♫
