Factors, Multiples and
Arrays
By Reagan and Cooper Harris
(when they are 4th graders)
What on earth is an
array?
Array
Rectangular shape,
or even a square!
Rows and columns
A way to multiply…
or divide,
Oops we’re not there
Yet!
What comes in an array?
• Eggs
• Diet Dr. Pepper
• stamps
Let’s explain those
arrays!

Let’s make arrays for 16:
This is one row of 16: 1 x 16
This is 2 rows of 8: 2 x 8
This is 4 rows of 4: 4 x 4
Check it out…this proves 16 is a square number!
So what are the factors
of 16?

Remember 4 x 4 is 16, so it doesn’t
have a “factor partner.”
What do we need to
know?
• An array is a rectangular/square
arrangement of objects to prove
multiplication.
• A factor is a number you multiply with
another number to make a product.
• A product is created by a factor pair. It
is the answer to a multiplication problem.
What we found out that
was cool!
• A square number is a product made
by using a factor multiplied by itself.
– Example: 9 is square because 3 x 3 =9
– 16 is square because we showed 4 rows
of 4 is 16.
– How about finding your own square
numbers?
We wonder…..
Who can explain prime numbers?
