MULTIPLICATION ARRAYS
MULTIPLICATION ARRAYS
Array – a group of objects arranged in rows and
columns
 A rectangular array is an arrangement of objects
in rows and columns. Each row has the same
number of objects, and each column has the same
number of objects.
 A rectangular array can be represented by a
multiplication number model

}
6 * 3 = 18
MULTIPLICATION ARRAYS
The some array can be organized in several
different ways.
 Rectangular arrays must have the same number
in each row and the same number in each column.

Organizing a rectangular multiplication array ,
you can find the factors of a number.
How many different ways can you organize 36?
Use the dot grid paper to show your work
36 can be organized in the following arrays:
36 * 1
6 * 6 This is a square array
9*4

Multiplication Arrays
Square Arrays show you square numbers
 Square numbers can be written with an exponent
 6²
 This means 6 times itself 2 times or 6 * 6

notation
