Arrays
Arrays—A rectangular arrangement of
items. We will use tiles (squares).
Each Array is labeled
(Rows x Columns)

Example: Arrays for the number 3
List the set of factors: {1,3} Prime
(1 x 3)
(3 x 1)
Each Array has an AREA
► AREA
= Length x Width
(1 x 3)
A=3 square units
(3 x 1)
A=3 sq. units
Each Array has a
PeRIMeter

Perimeter = 2L + 2W
P= (2 x 3) + (2 x 1) = 6 + 2 = 8
(1 x 3)

P=8 units
(3 x 1)
A=3 sq. units

Vocabulary you will need to know:
Arrays: A rectangular arrangement of items.
•PeRIMeter: The distance around the RIM of a figure.
•Area: The measure of covering inside a figure. It is
measured in square units.
•Factor: The numbers used in a multiplication problem
OR A factor of a given number is any number that
divides evenly into a given
•number with no remainder.
•Product: The answer to a multiplication problem.
