What is an informal command?
• An informal command is used to tell a
friend to do (or not do) something.
– to tell a friend to DO something, use an
AFFIRMATIVE command.
– to tell a friend to NOT DO something, use a
NEGATIVE command.
• These are called “tú” commands.

Affirmative Tú Commands
To form an affirmative tú command:
1. Conjugate the verb in the present
tense tú form.
2. Drop the –s.

Negative Tú Commands
To form a negative tú command:
1. Conjugate the verb in the present
tense yo form.
2. Drop the –o.
3. Add the correct ending.
-ar verbs add -es
-er and –ir verbs add -as
4. Put “no” in front of the command.

-car, -gar, -zar verbs have a
spelling change to preserve the
sound of the verb.
examples:
buscar – no busques
jugar – no juegues
organizar – no organices
