What is a noun?
Modifies a noun.
What is an adjective?
An action word
What is a verb?
Modifies a verb.
What is an adverb?
A substitute for a noun.
What is a pronoun?
Standard essay form.
What is the five paragraph
essay?
The first paragraph of a five
paragraph essay.
What is the introduction?
The number of paragraphs that
make up the body.
What is three?
Begins each paragraph of a five
paragraph essay.
What is a topic sentence?
One sentence, found in the
introduction paragraph,
summarizing the entire essay.
What is a thesis statement?
In order to be a complete
sentence it must include one of
each of these.
What is a subject and a verb?
This ends every sentence.
What is a punctuation mark?
Used to denote a phrase or
word spoken by a character.
What are quotation marks?
One of three things used when
combining two complete
thoughts into one sentence.
What is a semi-colon, a
transitional word, or a
conjunction?
This type of writing should
avoid personal words such as I
and You.
What is proper or formal?
Compares two things using the
words “like” or “as”
What is a simile?
An extreme exaggeration
What is a hyperbole?
Consecutive words with the
same beginning letter.
(a tongue twister)
What is alliteration?
A comparison of two things by
saying something is something
else.
What is a metaphor?
Words which suggest the sound
of which they are describing.
What is an onomatopoeia?
The turning point of a story,
the height of excitement.
What is the Climax?
The events which lead up to the
climax.
What is the rising action?
The beginning of a story, where
people and places are
extablished.
What is character development
or exposition?
The events which take place
after the climax.
What is the resolution?
This includes things such as the
location, time, mood, and
weather.
What is the setting?
