What is an Adverb?
• An Adverb is a word that tells us more about a
verb. (John speaks loudly.)
- Mary lives locally.
• Adverbs can also modify adjectives or other
adverbs.
- He is really handsome.
- He drives very fast.
How adverbs are form?
• We make many adverbs by adding -ly to an
adjective.
- quick ----- quickly
- beautiful ------ beautifully
- nice ----- nicely
• Some adverbs have no particular(特殊的) form.
- example: well, fast, very, never, always, often
still

Kinds of Adverbs
• Adverbs of Manner(態度;舉止) tells us the
manner or way in which something happens.
They answer the question “how?”.
- He speaks slowly. (How does he speak?)
• Adverbs of Place tells us the place where
something happens. They answer the
question “where?”
- Please sit here. (Where should I sit?)
Kinds of Adverbs
• Adverbs of Time tells us something about the
time that something happens. They answer
the question “when?” or “How often?”
- He came home yesterday. (When did he come
home?)
• Adverbs of Degree(程度;等級) tell us the degree
to which something happens. They answer the
question “how much?” or “to what degree?”
• Can be use to modify verbs, adjectives, or
adverbs. E.g: He works very fast.

What is an Adjective?
• An Adjective is a word that tells us more about
a noun.
- This is a big dog.
• Adjectives can be used before a noun (I like
fast food) or after certain verbs (This test is
hard)
• We can often use 2 or more adjectives
together.
- A beautiful young Chinese girl
Adjective Order (before noun)

The correct order for 2 or more adj. are:
1. The general order is : opinion, fact
A nice French car (not a French nice car)
2. the normal order for fact adjective is: size,
age, shape, colour, material, origin
