The most common use of reflexives is to
express actions that are done to oneself such
as verbs used to describe daily actions.



Levantarse – to get oneself up
Lavarse – to wash oneself
Cepillarse los dientes – to brush one’s teeth




Many verbs change meaning when they are in the
reflexive form. Study the list on p. 155.
Ir – to go
but
Volver – to return
but
Quedar –to be located but
irse – to leave
volverse – to become
quedarse – to stay
Some verbs exist only in their reflexive form.
 Darse cuenta de – to realize
 Quejarse – to complain
 Portarse bien – to behave
 Portarse mal – to misbehave



Reflexive Pronoun + Conjugated Verb

You may attach the reflexive pronoun to all
infinitive verbs, gerunds -ing(ando/iendo),
and affirmative commands. (You must attach
to affirmative and must never attach to
negative commands).



Used to tell what people do to or for one
another
Only use the first (nosotros) and third (ellos)
plural form of the verb preceded by “nos” or
“se”
Ex. Ellos se abrazan. They hug each other.
Nosotros nos llevamos bien. We get along
well.
