Reflexive Verbs:
Reflexive Verbs are used to describe something that involves
himself/herself
Reflexive verbs are made through the use of reflexive pronouns
(me, te, se, nos, os) to refer to the person doing the action. This
pronoun goes before the verb.
Reflexive verbs refer to emotions, feelings and reactions
–Examples:
Andrés se lastimó (Andrés hurt himself)
Lucía se despertó
(Lucía woke up)
When using the infinitive the pronoun can either com before the
verb or attach
–Examples:
No te debes preocupar
(you shouldn’t worry)
Or…
No debes preocuparte(you shouldn’t worry)
Reflexive Verbs Practice:
1.) Mama entro a la casa.
Al ver la casa tan sucia. (desanimarse)
2.) Mi hermana no nos ayudo. Papa
con ella. (enojarse)
3.) Yo desenchufe la computadora. Mama
funcionaba. (Ponerse nervosa)

Reflexive Verbs used Reciprocally:
Reflexive Verbs can also be used to express the idea of
each other
–Examples:
Alicia y yo nos conocemos muy bien
–(Alicia and I know each other very well)
Mis hermanitos se pelean mucho
– (My little brothers fight with each other a lot)
“El/la uno al otra” can be used, but is not necessary
to emphasize the reciprocal meaning
–Examples:
Mauricio y Sara se saludaron
– (Mauricio and Sara said hello)
Or…
Mauricio y Sara se saludaron el uno al otro
– (Mauricio and Sara said hello to each other)
Reflexive Verbs used Reciprocally:
con todo. (Ayudarse)
muy bien. (entenderse)
Impersonal Constructions with se:
“Se” can be used to specify the person doing the action of the
verb
“Se” can be used in all tenses
“Se” will always be used in the third person and the verb
following will be in the el/ella or ellos ellas form
When the noun following the verb is singular then the verb will be
in the el/ella form
–Example:
–Aquí se habla español español is singular
(Spanish is spoken here)
When the noun following the verb is plural then the verb will be
in the ellos/ellas form
–Example:
–Aquí se reparan carros carros is plural
(Cars are repaired here)
Impersonal Constructions with
“Se”:
Classes de baile. (ofrecer)
personas bilingues. (Necesitar)
