El Subjuntivo
The subjunctive tense is used when you
are making statements that involve
some level of uncertainty.
– These means that if you are speaking
about about desire, supposition, doubt, or
things that may or may not happen you
should use the subjunctive.
There are certain indicators for the use of the
subjunctive.
– These phrases are usually called impersonal
expressions.
– Additionally any time that the words may, might,
would, or should, are indicative of the subjunctive
tense.
Some examples of the subjunctive in English
are:
– I wish I were in Spain.
– It is important that you study.
– It is probable that you will do well on the test.
Forming the subjunctive in
Spanish
To form the subjunctive in Spanish
conjugate the verb to the “yo” form.
Drop the “o” ending.
For –ar verbs add the opposite (-er/-ir)
endings, determined by the subject.
For -er/-irverbs add the opposite (–ar )
endings, determined by the subject.
