Present Perfect: Why is it used?

Expresses a connection between the past and present.
Now
I ate dinner, so I am not hungry.
I have eaten dinner, so I am not hungry.
Present Perfect: When do we use it?

Completed at an indefinite time in the past

I have read The Little Prince. It is a great book!


Started in the past; continues to the present.
(often times used with for or since)
