Types of Installations

Clean Install (Fresh, New)


Upgrade






Replace existing OS with same OS
Corrects corrupt OS problems, retains existing applications and data
Existing settings and menus are lost (reinstall applications to restore menus)
Slip-stream


Replace old OS with new OS
Retains existing applications, data, settings, and menus

Reinstall (Repair)


Install OS on an empty partition
Install new operating system with Service Packs included
Multiple Operating System Installations


Multi-boot
 Install new operating system in a separate partition on a computer that already
has one or more other operating systems
