Basic Information about

Monitor, Screen or Visual Display
Unit are some of the names

The monitor is usually a Thin film
transistor liquid crystal display
(The TFT-LCD)

Originally computer monitors
were used to process data while
television receivers were used for
entertainment

This making computer monitors
have less graphics than a tv

Monitors have now been more
processed to be used for both data
and entertainment
Difference in Computer
Monitors
 The early computer
monitors were used for
processing data which
allowed them to be made
with less graphics than the
newer models
 Newer models are trying to
become more hands on
with better graphics to
allow users to have more
experience and
entertainment on the
computers
Different Ways of Screen
Lighting
 Cathode Ray Tube: These were the first monitors.
They were used until 1980s and were knows and
"Video display terminals”
 Liquid Crystal: These type of screens are still with
us and have been used, upgraded and continuously
expanding known as LCD screens.
 Organic Light-Emitting Diode: These screens are
very expensive and new. They start pricing at
around $7500 but are expected to drop in price
Video Card
 The screen or monitor can
display video and
information generated
through the "Video card”
 The video card is placed
inside the computer, which
allows screen or monitor to
be viewed.
 The video card is a
rectangular shape with tons
of contacts on the bottom of
the card and one or more on
the side for connection to
other devices
What is the LED?
 An LED is a Semiconductor
that permits current flow in
one of the directions. this
allows heat to be created
which also gives off light
The Sixth Sense.
 Computer Monitors are going to start to become
more and more interactive with people therefore
creating the sixth sense.
 The sixth sense is going to be a digital world that
can be accessed using your hands
 Using the sixth sense people will be able to control
computers with their hands and the computer
screen with out having a real screen.
 This will further advance the monitor because it will
allow any surface to become your monitor
