Basic definition
• A touch screen is an
input device that allows
users to operate a PC by
simply touching the
display screen.
• Touch input is suitable for
a wide variety of
computing applications.
• A touch screen can be
used with most PC
systems as easily as other
input devices such as
track balls or touch pads.
3
Working of touch screen
Touch screen has 3 main components: a touch
sensor, a controller and a software driver. To make
a complete touch input system, a touch screen is
combined with a display and a PC or other device.

Touch screen sensor- A touch screen sensor is a glass
plate having touch responsive surface
Controller
The controller used in touch screen is a small PC card
that interconnects between the touch sensor and the PC.
Software Driver
The driver is software for the PC system that permits the
touch screen and computer to work together.

Electronic devices and computer program
products for controlling a touch screen
Methods for controlling touch
screen oftan electronic device
include: providing a soft key on
the touch screen; determining an
update triggering event; and,
responsive to the update
triggering event, relocating the
soft key and/or a label of the soft
key from a first location on the
touch screen to a second
location on the touch screen,
displaced from the first location.

How do touch-screen monitors
know where you're touching?
• Touch-screen monitors have become more
and more common place as their price has
steadily dropped over the past decade. There
are three basic systems that are used to
recognize a person's touch:
• Resistive
• Capacitive
• Surface acoustic wave

Technology Used in India for touch
screen
In India Capacitive Touch screen
Technology is recommended for all
application because of its ability to perform
in contaminated environments.
Contaminants such as grease, liquid and
dust do not interfere with the touch
screen's
operation. It is the most durable
.
and robust touch screen available today.
Capacitive Touch screen Technologies:
ClearTek Touch Screens
For use in all Indian Conditions
All-glass touch Solution
Superior optical clarity
unmatched durability, tested to over 225
million touches

Touch screens Add-ons and Integrated
Touch screen Monitors
We offer two main types of
touch screen products,
touch screen add-ons and
integrated touchscreen
monitors. Touchscreen
add-ons are touchscreen
panels that hang over an
existing computer monitor.
Integrated touch screen
monitors are computer
displays that have the
touchscreen built-in. Both
product types work in the
same way, basically as an
input device like a mouse
or trackpad.

What Are The Advantages of
Touch screen Solutions?
The touch screen is one of the easiest PC
interfaces to use, making it the interface of choice
for a wide variety of applications. Here are a few
examples of how touch input systems are being
used today:

More Expensive.
Low Resolution.
Dirty Appearance.
Complex Setup.
Not portable.

Touch screen used in ATM
The business goals included
increasing ATM preferences usage,
reducing transaction time and
increasing customer satisfaction.
several design guidelines were
established to guide the project:
1. Limit one clear interaction or
customer action per screen
2. Use clear and concise language
3. Use a consistent grid for button
placement
4. Move all interaction to touch screen
when possible (example, keypad
entry)
5. Improve visual and auditory
feedback cues when the customer
interacts with the application.

Conclusion
• A touch screen is a computer display screen that is
sensitive to human touch, allowing a user to interact with
the computer by touching pictures or words on the
screen. Touch screens are used with information, kiosks
computer-based training devices, and systems designed
to help individuals who have difficulty manipulating a
mouse or keyboard. Touch screen technology can be
used as an alternative user interface with applications
that normally require a mouse, such as a Web browser.
Some applications are designed specifically for touch
screen technology, often having larger icons and links
than the typical PC application. Monitors are available
with built-in touch screen technology or individuals can
purchase a touch screen kit.
