in Mecca, Arabia.
Followers of
Islam are called
Muslims.

Muslims worship in a
building called a
mosque. An
alternative word for
mosque, from the
original Arabic is
masjid meaning
place of prostration.
THE QUR’AN
The qur’an is the
Muslims holy book
it is the word of
Allah (god) as told
to the prophet
Muhammad (peace
be upon him). The
qur’an is the word
of god as it was
given in Arabic.

The main room of a

There is no furniture
in a mosque.
It is decorated in
Arabic text.
There are not any
pictures in it.
Most of it is covered
in carpet
The minbar



Raised platform next
to the mihrab.
The imam stands on
it when he
preaches.
Some minbars are
very decorated
other may just be
simple flight if stairs.
Useful Words
Allah – the Muslims god.
Qur’an – Muslims holy book.
Mosque – place of worship.
Wudu – the wash before u pray.
Mihrad – alcove or arch in a prayer room.
Minbar – platform or stairs where the prayer
leader preaches.
