大学体验英语听说教程供大学英语教学基础

◆ Earthquake:
A sudden movement of the earth’s
crust caused by the release of
stress accumulated along geologic
faults or by volcanic activity.
2005 Jiangxi earthquake
• An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the
Richter scale hit the cities of Jiujiang and
Ruichang in east China's Jiangxi Province
on Nov. 26, 2005,killing 13 people and
destroying many buildings.

The number of people dead and buried
in the earthquake and tsunami disaster in
Indian Ocean on Dec. 26, 2004, reached
292,000.
•
There were thousands of bodies, under
the debris in the affected areas in Aceh
province in Indonesia.
•
The catastrophe on Dec. 26 caused
more than a half million people homeless.
