INTRODUCTION
The drama of inevitable suffering and death from deadly or debilitating
disease for which medical science has no cure is lived and relived every day by
countless of people all over the world and there appears to be little hope in

14th ZACBLM National Workshop/Dialogue, was held in Harare 16-17th June
2016 at a time when Africa continues to have a heavy burden of disease
largely due to HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Malnutrition, TB, Malaria, Maternal
Complications at Birth, Diabetes Mellitus, Pneumonia, Diarrhoeal Diseases,
Congestive Cardiac Failure and Road Traffic Accidents. At the time , the world
is facing ZIKA virus threat from South America. In addition , reports of the
most dangerous drug resistant ‘superbugs’ have been made.

2014 , maternal complications at birth was 960/100,000,
neonatal deaths of 97 /1000 births and weekly mortality of 5000
from cholera epidemic.
 Current , HIV/AIDS is in 13% of the population, TB prevalence
which was at 603/100,000 is now reduced to 329/100,000 with
75% HIV positive.
Ebola crisis in West Africa has claimed 12,000 lives with some
30,000 cases.
Zimbabwe has some 7000 new cancer cases per year and 60%
are HIV positive.
Cervical cancer is the commonest cancer in women causing a high
mortality of 43% in SSA with 63 to 98% of them having HPV.
Prostatic cancer is the commonest cancer in African men, rising
by 6% annually.
 Diabetes Mellitus like in most countries in Africa is found in 10%
of the population and increasing.
HIV and Diabetes Mellitus lower the immune system making the
capsule with TB break causing active TB. Co-infection of HIV-TB
and Diabetes Mellitus is lethal causing very high mortality.
 Many lives can be saved with proper nutrition with 32 locally
available foods which can prevent cancers and infections and
