HOW TO HELP
WAYS TO HELP
• Talk to them
• Remain calm
• Listen
• Don’t judge
• Help them problem-solve
• Ask them what they want to do
• Help them feel like they are in control
• If they are a serious danger to themselves
or others (ie suicidal, homicidal, using
while driving, etc) you can pursue an
involuntary hold in the county in which
they reside.
• Go to the Police Department or
Courthouse and ask for the paperwork
• You will need to fill out Affidavits about
what is causing them to be in danger
• You will need to complete an application
to petition the court
