This is a great time to connect with the
family and caseworker, get contact
information and set up first meeting.
Youth is usually not happy, be
encouraging and reassuring. Include
youth as much as possible. Do not talk
about youth like they are not there.
Youths First Day in the Home
Attend Intake Meeting
Invite Caseworkers, parents to accompany child to home
Help Child unpack
Clothing Inventory
Assign peer “buddy”
Give Copy of Home Manual
Introduce Child at Family Meeting
Serve youths favorite food or snack
Conduct private session to teach about point card, privileges,
house rules etc.
Practice Basic Skills
Reinforce youths strengths, teach to weaknesses
