R6S Matrix System
Step One: Create three* campaigns with different messaging. A color-coded system helps you keep track.
As part of your ideation, each message should have a slogan or tagline, copy, a CTA, and art for any
banner or multi-media ads. Below are our sample messages and color-coding:
• Half Price Sale Promotion. Sale for 50% off. A real bargain!
• New Product Line Announced. Meet our new line of fantastic products.
• Friends and Family Special Offer. An exclusive offer for the ones you love.

Step Two: Identify three* advertising platforms you want to try. Your platforms should be a mix based on
the research you’ve done on each. There are lots to choose from, including: Google AdWords, Yahoo and
Bing, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, SnapChat, Yelp, not to mention native advertising,
email marketing, and various niche networks.
In our example, let’s say you picked the following:

Step Three: Divide budget equally among your three campaigns, and also divide that budget equally
among the three platforms.

Each platform runs each campaign simultaneously, or as near to simultaneous as possible, so you
have comparable data. Watch ROI to and track cost per conversion to determine success.

Simply edit the budget, the names of the campaigns, and the
platforms in this template to match your own.
The formula for CPA is 1/3 of that campaign’s budget, divided by
three, divided by the number of conversions. We use a monthly
budget of $3,000 in our example, however you can adjust by
changing the amount to match your budget.
This gives you a quick, down and dirty overview to measure the
primary KPIs in your advertising campaigns!
Notice how you can evaluate both the campaign and the platform.
Our sample numbers show that Instagram is not a good platform for
the Half Price campaign, but is great for the New Line campaign.
Remember, you can also calculate your Return on Advertising Spend
(ROAS) to see your profit ratio. Different products have different
profit margins and ROI. The Half Price campaign, for example, likely
has a different margin and therefore a different ROI than the other
campaigns. ROAS gives you a universal baseline whether you know
the profit margin or not.
