 Egyptians
, Pompeii, Ancient Greece, and
Ancient Rome have all used some means of
advertisements.
 In
England in the 17th century advertisements
were found in weekly newspapers.
 In
1836 a French newspaper included the
first paid advertisement.
 1840
advertising agency's were founded in
Boston.
 By
1920’s the first radio stations were
appearing.
 Radio
stationed soon learned that they could
make money by selling sponsorship spots to
businesses.
 This
same practice was carried over to
Television in the 1940’s and early 1950’s.
 In
the 1960’s creativity was allowed in
advertisements- producing advertisements
with unexpected messages.
 1980-1990’s
cable television was introduced.
This brought on channels directly meant for
advertising (QVC, Home Shopping Network).
 Also,
in the 1990’s the internet became a
new means of advertising.

 Coca cola continually developed different
ads for different times.
 1971 Coca Cola had a commercial that soon
became a hit signal.
 Elaborate holiday ads.
 Coca Cola was the first sponsor of the
Olympic games in 1928.
 In 2001 Coca Cola restructured their ads to
so that they were produced locally around
the world, and not all from the same
advertising company.
