Slow Controls – Calibration for
MICE
The effectiveness of slow controls and calibration
hardware/software and can make or break an
experiment especially in the commissioning/debug
phase
Issues addressed in conventional HEP experiments
HV set, ramp, and monitor (V & I)
Low voltage set and monitor
Gas systems – purity and flow (O2)
Magnetic field (Hall, nmr probes, PS status, etc)
Cryo-systems (temp, pressure, etc)
Incoming beam diagnostics
Rate, profile, position, etc.
Alarm watcher monitoring and displaying problems with all
of the above

MICE
Unconventional issues specific to MICE
Monitoring RF systems
Low level RF control interface to DAQ
– Pulse to Pulse diagnostics/measurement
Radiation monitors
– X-ray, electron
– Instantaneous feedback regarding experiment environment
RF spark monitors
– Health and well-being of RF
– May have safety issue
