HOMEWORK: Read Chapter 2, Lessons 2 and 3 for TOMORROW
Warm Up
• With the person sitting beside you, take turns drawing a plant cell
and then an animal cell on your white board. Share them with each
other before you erase and give the other person a turn. ALSO,
OPEN YOUR NOTEBOOKS TO YESTERDAY’S VOCABULARY
TERMS.

Standards/Objective: TLW demonstrate an understanding that similar cells are organized to
form structures by discussing the different groupings of cells to form tissues, organs and organ
systems.
Warm-up:
On white boards, LW partner up and practice drawing a diagram of a animal cell and a plant cell,
each taking a turn to draw one of them. LW identify organelles learned and their function.
Show students a football, basketball and a badminton/ping pong ball
LW demonstrate an appropriate use of each
Discuss connection between and objects shape and it’s purpose
Instruction:
Organelles  cells  tissues  organs  systems
Organelles work together to help a cell function
Cells have many different sizes and shapes. Not all cells have the same job
Examples: there are branching (nerves), flat (skin) and round cells (blood)
Show students a tree branch, leaf and a saucer. Which object matches which cell shape.
How do the shape of each cell (nerve, skin, blood) match its function?
Same type of cells working together create a tissue. (Ex. Muscle, bone, nerve tissue)
Different types of tissues work together to form organs. Each organ performs a main job. (Ex.
Stomach, eyes, ears, heartstem, roots, leaves, flowers)
Skin is an example of an organ. Explain each tissue and how they work together.
Different organs work together to form organ systems.
Look at a website that explains how each level builds on one another and watch a BrainPOP
movie on cells.

Shape and Purpose…..
3 Different Shapes Cells Have….
• Branching Cells
• Flat Cells
• Round Cells
Take a look at page 42 in your textbooks, please.
Here we have pictures of a tree
branch, leaf, and saucer. Which
picture matches which cell shape?
How does the shape of each cell (nerve, skin,
blood) match its function?
After cells we get…..
• The same type of cells
working together produces
tissues (examples include
muscle tissue, bone tissue,
and nerve tissue)
• Look at page 44
After tissues we get….
• Different types of tissues work
together to form organs. Each organ
performs a job. Examples include the
stomach, eyes, ears, and heart. In
plants, examples include roots, stem,
leaves, flowers
• Also on page 44 and 45
After organs we get….
• Different organs work
together to form organ
systems.
• Look at page 46
Here we have it explained by other
sources…..
