Connecting Motion with
Force
Force- a push or pull one body
exerts on another.
-Force does not always
change velocity.
Balanced forces- forces on
an object that are equal in size
and opposite in direction.
Ex: Tug of War.
Unbalanced (Net) Forceforces on an object are not
equal in size or direction.
- This causes a change in the
velocity of the object.
Inertia- the tendency of an
object to resist any changes in
its motion.
- velocity remains the same
unless a force changes it.
- The more mass an object
has, the greater its inertia.
Ex: bowling ball vs. tennis ball

Isaac Newton’s
law of
motion- A moving object will
stay moving until a force stops
it. An object at rest will stay at
rest until a force moves it.
- Also called the Law of Inertia.
Friction- force that opposes
motion between 2 surfaces
that are touching each other.
Ex: Friction is the force
between you and the ground
so you can walk.
