Forces
Force—a push or
pull that one body
exerts on another
– Every push, pull,
stretch, or bend
results in a force
being applied.
Balanced Forces
Net Force—when 2 or more
forces act on an object at
the same time
The object does not move if
the forces cancel each
other out.
Balanced Forces—forces on
an object that are equal in
size and opposite in
direction.
Unbalanced Forces
Unbalanced Forces—The size and
direction of forces acting on an object
are unequal.
Balanced & Unbalanced Forces
Inertia
Inertia—the tendency of an object to
resist a change in its motion
The greater the mass, the greater its
inertia.
Vector (arrow) that shows magnitude and
direction of a force.

Law of Motion
The Law of Inertia:
– an object moving at a constant velocity
keeps moving at that velocity unless a net
force acts on it.
– an object at rest stays at rest unless a net
force acts on it.
