EXECUTIVE
What is my role at CSSC?
• To review the overall provision of sport at
CSSC
• Provide recommendations on how CSSC
can improve its current offering to
members
Area Association Research
87 Area Associations were asked to fill in
the survey.
72 Area Associations responded.
1. Physical Activity Provision
Please give details of any physical activity
opportunities available in your Area Association.
Direct offerings
• Competitive events – e.g. a 5-a-side football tournament
• One off events – e.g. family sports day
• On going events – e.g. a regular weekly/monthly netball training
session
• Short courses – e.g. 4 week introduction to golf for beginners
• Taster days – e.g. a windsurfing lesson
In-direct offerings
• Local discounts - e.g. 10% gym discount or swimming pool discount
• Sponsoring community clubs – e.g. providing a grant to a local club
“We give a one off £25 per member discount
each year for gym membership. We also run
golf lessons each year and we are hoping to
run an indoor bowls day soon.”
“We support a regular badminton and cricket club by
advertising their matches and providing funds for purchase
of equipment. We have regular walking events usually 3 or 4
per year and usually between 20 and 30 members take part.
A local gym offers members 10% discount. Our annual BBQ
and celebration party involves an option to play games such
as outdoor badminton, bat & ball, etc. We have tenpin
bowling social evenings (can be anywhere between 10 and
40 people taking part) We have helped one runner to attend
a 10K run in London. We sponsored a member to become a
fitness instructor. We offer a £3 refund on the cost of ten
session Zumba tickets. We are also planning a kayaking
taster day in the spring and a sailing day.”
2. Communication
Advertising Activities
• Newsletters/emails were the most popular method of communication
used by 92% of AAs.
• Social media was the least popular and only used by 21% of AAs.
• Only 16% of AAs used all 5 methods of communications to advertise
activities – Newsletters/Emails, Website, Posters/Flyers, Word of
Mouth and Social Media.
Feedback Opportunities for Members
• Only a handful of AAs provide an opportunity for members to give
feedback on activities attended
• However the majority of AAs stated that they would like to have a
feedback process in place.
3. Support/Partnerships
Externally
• Over half of all AAs have never contacted an external organisation
for assistance.
• Examples include local councils, local community groups, a national
governing body or county sports partnership.
CSSC Head Office
• Additional funding.
• Help with promoting and advertising events.
• Help Area Associations find out what their members want on offer.
