End User Teams - UC requirements
“Our antiquated phone system is frustrating. Why can’t I just
communicate with my team with the same ease at work as I do at
home?”
“I don’t want to have to attend a training to learn a new phone system.”
“I expect to see and hear everyone in a meeting, regardless of where
they are, what device they use and focus on the topic of the meeting—
instead of worrying about the technology that connects us.”

IT Staff - UC requirements
“While our strategy is to move from voice telephony / IP PBX to
unified communications, we are living with multiple voice
communications platforms that are not integrated. I need a
platform that is capable of bridging the short-comings of our
legacy systems and help us get to UC, faster.”
“Our users are on different networks, working from many different
locations. I need a platform that can simplify the deployment and
management of communication tools.”
“In our business, time is precious – we cannot force our
employees to lose time training and managing legacy phone
systems”

CFO: “Reduce operational costs in our business”
“Communicating with our customers and among our teams is
critical to our business. We cannot afford our employees losing
productivity using disparate, outdated, ineffective communication
methods”
“Calls are still easier and often more productive than email. But
our teams now communicate in many different ways (IM, Webconferences, Cloud-team-applications, Social-Networks, Video
collaboration, etc.) Are these making us better? What is the ROI?
How does this all reduce our operating costs?”
“We need to reduce travel for meetings and easy, reliable and
consistent video and audio communications is the only way to
make this happen”

BroadSoft Executive – Assistant
Pain Point
Existing shared line functionality does not allow the relationship
between an Executive and an Assistant to work well. Example: it
is not simple for an Assistant to make a call on behalf of the
Executive, or to answer calls for the Executive when the he/she
doesn’t want to be disturbed.
Changes
VVX Phones now support the BroadWorks Executive – Assistant
feature. This enables the Executive to redirect calls to the
Assistant (if the Executive desires) and for the Assistant to make
calls on behalf of the Executive before passing them on to the
him/her.
Benefits
A simpler relationship is established between the Executive line
and the Assistant line. Management of calls is simplified so that
important calls can still be answered, even if the Executive does
not want to be disturbed. From the phone, the Executive can
decide whether they want their calls to be filtered to the Assistant
without disturbing them, or if they want to screen their calls
themselves.

Polycom, Inc. All rights reserved.
33
BroadSoft Flexible Seating
Pain Point
The current Hoteling feature supported via our VVX
phones on the BroadSoft platform had limited ability to
use the host phone as the guests’ own phone – no
directories, settings etc ported over.
Changes
VVX Phones now support the newer Flexible Seating
service via BroadWorks. When configured on the server,
a Guest profile is created via the DMS that is
downloaded and applied to a Host phone when the user
logs in. Enables the end user to use their “own” settings,
just like they were at their desk.
Benefits
Enables the end user to access their “own” settings,
just like if they were at their own desk. Calls that are
made to their own phone will appear on the Guest
phone, and outgoing calls will appear to originate from
the users phone. Contacts and other information is
also located on the phone.
©
Polycom, Inc. All rights reserved.
34
IPv6 Support
Pain Point
With IPv4 is outdated and more network complexity is
now required to enable addresses to be used.
Changes
The VVX Phones now support three different addressing
modes:
• IPv4 Only – As today
• IPv6 Only – Phone will only use IPv6 addresses and
IPv6 based functionality like DHCPv6
• Dual IPv4/IPv6 Mode – Phone will chose the
appropriate addressing method.
Benefits
Provides future proofing for network upgrades and
enables the phones to be used in a mixed
environment.
©
Polycom, Inc. All rights reserved.
35
IMS Support – Phase 1
Pain Point
It is critical for today’s mobile convergence, to have the
ability for VVX phones to operate in an IMS
environment.
Changes
VVX Phones have been updated to provide support for
additional RFCs that will allow basic IMS interworking.
The following key changes are being made:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
RFC 6665
RFC 6086
P-CSCF Discovery
IMS Registration
Additional SIP Headers – MIME-Version, Reply-To, P-Associated-URI,
Allow-Event, Content-Encoding, Content-Language, Error-Info
SIP Response Codes
QoS Classes
Updates to Early Media
Communication Diversion
Benefits
Polycom phones will be ready to deploy into IMS
based solutions.

UX Enhancements – Off Hook Dialing
Pain Point
When an end user goes off hook, they lose sight of their
speed dials, BLFs. The only way to get back is to press
another key, which is not an ideal / intuitive behavior.
Changes
When configured, VVX Phones now remain on the idle
line view when the phone goes off hook. Enables the
end user to make a call directly from a speed dial, or
start to type. Once anything is entered, the display
switches will show the normal dialer screen. If all the
characters are deleted, the screen reverts back to the
idle display.
Benefits
Users can quickly make calls from speed dials without
having to take an extra step. During a transfer or while
on a conference, the user can select a speed dial or
BLF directly, improving the speed and accuracy of
these actions.
NOTE: VVX 500 and VVX 600 are supported.
©
Polycom, Inc. All rights reserved.
37
UX Enhancements – In Call Screen Improvements
Pain Point
Once a call is initiated, the VVX display shows
only the active call information – either in a
stacked call list or the active call is using the
entire screen. Details of BLF states or activity on
other lines can not be seen.
Changes
When configured, VVX Phones now show the
call information (Line, To/From and Call Duration)
in the top ribbon. It is possible to see the stacked
call list or the full screen view by swiping right to
left.
Benefits
Users can easily see what the status of any
particular shared line or BLF is without having
to swipe or take any action on the display.
NOTE: VVX 500 and VVX 600 are supported.

UX Enhancements – Modern Theme
Pain Point
The VVX User Interface was developed six years ago.
At the time the design followed a simple easy to learn user
interface following the smartphone look and feel. Today
these smart phones have changed therefore the User
interface feels a bit out of date date.
Changes
The VVX phones are now configurable and the display has
a new set of icons and new colors. The User interface flow
remains the same (i.e. no change to Soft Keys, call control
flows, menu structures), but the color, the icons and fonts
have been updated to a more modern look.
Benefits
Users get a more up to date look and feel, while retaining
the familiar experience and usability of the VVX
NOTE: VVX 500 and VVX 600 are supported.
