The First Crusade
• 1096- 1099 AD
• First MAJOR conflict of a semi-unified Western
Christendom and Middle Eastern Muslims
• Started as a response to a cry for help from
the Byzantines

The Third Crusade
• 1189- 1192 AD
• An attempt to recapture Jerusalem after it was
conquered by Saladin in 1187
• King Richard Lionheart conquers Sicily, Cyprus,
and Acre and negotiated with Saladin

The Fourth Crusade
• 1202-1204 AD
• Meant to reclaim lands lost to Muslims, ended
up sacking Constantinople and assuming
control of it for a short time

The Children’s Crusade
• Around 1212 AD
• The idea arose that he previous Crusades
failed because of corrupt adults
• Children were thought to be pure and
innocent, and god would protect them
