Beyond 3G?
• B3G is defined as the integration of existing systems to interwork with
each other and with a new interface.
• Pers stands for Personalization and this topic is under research in
MAGNET (My personal Adaptive Global NET) project
Convergence is really what 4G is all about!!

Grouping of PNs with the objective of
achieving a specific common goal, incl.
temporary ad-hoc groupings, e.g. Distributed

System and service adaptation
• Just bought a new device, or
moved it to another location?
– It’s supposed to JUST work…
• Trying to figure out what
service to use?
– Why did I pick the busy printer??
• Ever wished your device would
do what you wanted to do, and
not what it was programmed to do?
– Why did I forget to put in on silence when going
to the movies?

Context Aware
Services,
Applications
and network
components
Adapting security levels
Security level is influenced by its context, e.g.
•
•
Device capability and resources, which may be limited
What implications will it have, if the data is being stolen, tampered with etc.?
– Type of application used
– What data is transferred
•
What means of communication am I using?

To be or not to be trusted
Trust comes in many forms!
And plays an important role in (federated) PN’s
Do we trust this guy?

Ensuring privacy
• Big brother is watching???
– Or is it my neighbour?
• How do we achieve system and service
level adaptation while ensuring privacy?
