CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS IS KNOW FOR
THE FOLLOWING:
He discovered the Americas during his route to
find a way to India. He died believing that he
found a way to India when he actually found the
Americas. He also landed in San Salvador and
Cuba. He was the founder of the New World.
Christopher also created the Columbian
Exchange. The Columbian Exchange was a
trading route between the Old World and the New
world. The things being imported and exported
were animals, plants, people, diseases and
culture. He opened the Americas to European
colonization.
Between these to continents, which were considered the
New World and the Old World all of these things were
traded in order to help the economies and bring new things
to both worlds that would be very helpful. The Columbian
Exchange was named after Christopher Columbus because
of the way they were being traded, it was very similar to his
routes when he was on his voyages.
Christopher used three ships during his voyages. The ships
were the Santa Maria, Niña and the Pinta. The ships were
very important because they were the only way that a person
could travel on by sea. Out of the three ships the Santa Maria
was considered the leader due to its flags and its size. Due to
its size Santa Maria was the slowest and the Pinta with the
smallest size was the fastest ship out of the three. The Niña
was considered a caravel ship.
These are the routes Columbus did during
his voyages. These routes were the
discovery of the Americas instead of Asia.
Christopher didn’t have enough money to pay for the trips so he
searched for help with several kings. He asked King John II of
Portugal but the king refused to help him in 1484. In 1486 he returned
to Spain so seek for help. The first person he asked was the Spanish
Crown but they too denied him the money. Then he went on to France
and England to ask King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to sponsor the
voyage in 1492. Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand were the ones
responsible for paying the voyage of Christopher. The reason they
agreed was due to the Queen because she wanted to spread
Christianity and wanted a better wealth source than the one Portugal
had.
These are some of the monuments made in
recognition of Christopher Columbus. The first one is
located in Madrid, Spain, the second one is in
Argentina and the last one is located in Santo
Domingo de Guzman, Dominican Republic. These
monuments have been created to recognize him for
his discovery of The Americas.
