• Cleopatra: a daughter of the ruling Ptolemy
family, on the throne as a Roman ally.
• Marc Antony: a general and ally of Cesar’s, drove
out the conspirators and took control in Rome
after Caesar’s death.

• Julius Caesar: a nephew of Marius, was a
popular general of the time. He was a
powerful speaker that spent a lot of money
to win support. Caesar was popular with
the poor.

and expanded the Roman Empire.
• Pax Romana: period of peace that began with

• Five Good Emperors: emperors that ruled Rome
for 100 years.
