Roman Government
The Roman Government:
The Republic
Senate
Council of The Plebs
Assembly of the Army
Consuls (2)
*****Dictators*****
The Structure of the
Government
As
demonstrated by
the chart, the
Roman
government was
VERY
complicated, but
highly
structured.
Dictatorship
This is only a temporary
situation, taken up in
extreme circumstances,
like natural disasters.
Really, never done for
more than 3 years. Once
the emergency is over, the
person gives up all power.
Triumvirates
First Triumvirate: Julius
Caesar, Marcus Licinius
Crassus, Gnaeus
Pompeius Pompey
Second Triumvirate:
Octavius (Augustus),
Marcus Aemilius
Lepidus, and Mark
Antony
Julius Caesar
He fights Mark Antony
over control of Rome
(Antony teams up with
Cleopatra)
Eventually, Caesar tries
to declare himself
"dictator for life"- which
leads to his assassination
on March 15, 44BC
("Ides of March")
