• Christianity originated in 1st century
Palestine Jewish life and faith environment
AD 3 years, Jews living in Palestine were conquered by Rome
Since the failure of many uprisings, people placed their hopes in
religion and look forward to the emergence of a savior, to save them.
After BC, in Asia Minor(小亚细亚) there was a sect which spreaded
that a "savior“ was to come . Christianity is actually coming from the
evolution of this sect.

to the emperor of the East Roman
Empire.
• The emperor could appoint and depose
the archbishop, convene councils,
approve the councils’ decisions and
explain the doctrine

• Curia(罗马教廷) was the centre of
Catholic; power all concentrated on
the archbishop.
• 1096 -1291, Catholic carried out 8
religious war (the Crusade 十字军东征)

• In 16th century, religious reforms took
place in Germany, Switzerland,
Netherlands and Northern Europe;
Protestantism(新教) was created.
• Martin Luther(马丁.路德) and Calvin(加
尔文) were the most famous leaders.

Canada )
• The difference from Orthodox and
Catholic (various sects, no uniform and
strict organizations)
