and Caesar’s
grandnephew,
Octavian, became
the unchallenged

existed peace
(Pax Romana)
and prosperity.
DAY III
• To distract the masses of poor people, the government
provided free games, races, and gladiator contests. The
Colosseum was a huge arena which held 50,000 people.
Rich and poor alike attended the games.
• During Pax
Romana,
another activity
slowly grew in
the Roman
Empire – a
new religion
called
Christianity.
• Christianity grew because it
– Embraced all people, rich and poor
– Gave hope to everyone
– Offered a personal relationship with God
– Promised eternal life after death
• In 313 A.D., the
emperor
Constantine
ended the
persecution of
Christians and
claimed to have
seen the image
of a cross after
praying for
victory in battle.
• Paul, was an
important the
apostle that was
very influential in
spreading
Christianity. He
declared the
Christianity should
welcome all new
comers and
become more
than just a local
religion.
• As Christianity slowly spread throughout the
world, Pax Romana ended (180 A.D.) and the
Roman Empire began to crumble…..
