Task 1: How did Augustus lay the foundation for stable government in the
Roman Empire?
Emperor Octavian Title of Augustus and Princep.
Goal:
Bring peace, order, unity and prosperity.
How:
- Created an efficient civil service to enforce laws
- Rewarded people for their talent not merit.
- Restored allegiance to Rome
- Ordered a census
- Set up a postal service
- Introduced new coins.
Task 2: How was life during the Pax Romana?
- Lasted about 200 years (Why? Efficient emperors)
- Equality before the law
- Legions and fleet protected the empire
- Knowledge, art and ideas were spread and
encouraged.
- Rome was beautified (aqueducts, temples, roads,
public baths, and government buildings were built)
- A policy of bread and circuses was introduced.
(entertainment and food was made possible)
