the new functionality.

especially regarding
the new functionality;
starting in April 2010.
Overview Version 2010
• Many new functions and enhancements; some are described
in detail.
General Functional Enhancements
– Foreground / Background control
o Besides graphics now also available for all
kinds of objects that can overlap.
o Reasonable use for e.g.:
o Symbols (attribute templates) and connections
Had to be filled by “Empty text – opaque” so far since connections
were displayed “over” the symbols.
o Text and graphics
Texts used to be displayed on the
top-most level so far
and couldn‘t be put in the background.
o Doesn‘t work with panel layout
since placement defines the display
order there (plugged devices)
General Functional Enhancements
– Grouping sheets
o Several sheets can be combined as
group and edited collectively.
– Updating groups
o Groups imported as subcircuits
can be updated.
General Functional Enhancements
– Displaying several connectors in one symbol
(available in E³.cable)
o Simplified display of connectors – several connectors can be “contained” in
one symbol.
o Such a group used to exist for individual connectors only.
o This connector group is handled as “pin views” of the individual pins.
o Can also be used as hierarchical blocks to simplify the hierarchical display.
General Functional Enhancements
o The group is dynamically structured, thus changes to the assignment and
connectors can be done any time.
o No database enhancements with symbols and components required.
o Easy handling through Drag&Drop or the “Split/Merge” command
o With plugged connectors the functionality is restricted.
General Functional Enhancements
– Different display for “twisted pairs”.
o Corresponding connections are identified by an arrow.
– Automatically hiding windows.
General Functional Enhancements
– Inserting objects from the tree directly into
another project
o Copy&Paste and Cut&Paste from the E³.series
tree directly into another project.
– Dimensions along outlines
o Dimension lines automatically run along
the outlines of graphis or connect lines
(especially for formboard).
General Functional Enhancements
– Changes to signals don‘t affect complete net.
– Specifying the objects to be deleted
when “purging”.
General Functional Enhancements
– Graphic lines can be cut using the
TRIM command.
– Supporting the
current DXF/DWG
versions.
General Functional Enhancements
– Symbols used as components‘ preview symbols can directly be
defined with the component in the database.
– Results of component/symbol search in the
database are immediately displayed,
folders are automatically opened.
General Functional Enhancements
– Checking components/symbols in the project that don‘t exist in
the defined database.
– Translation of attribute names,
texts,cross-references,…
and tab names.
General Functional Enhancements
– COM Enhancements
o Calculation of outer diameter of wire bundle
o Enhancements for 3D panel
o Enhancements for options and variants
o Enhancements for faster reading of texts
o ……
General Functional Enhancements
– Replicable component / symbol database
(ORCALE and Microsoft SQL Server)
o Possibility to locally edit the database on servers, and using replications the
various databases can automatically be aligned.
o This is basically a database system functionality but also requires
corresponding support by E³.series (e.g. by unique key assignment).
General Functional Enhancements
–
Multimaster Replication
Oracle meanwhile supports several master tables as function for enhanced
replication.
Modifications to one of the master tables from any location are transferred to the
other master tables, either synchronously or asynchronously. This technology
enables immediate table updates which avoids snapshot updates over the
network.
–
Transaction Replication
This replication is a technology to copy and distribute data from one database to
another and corresponding synchronizing between the databases to
guarantee data consistency.
Replication distributes data to several locations and remote users through local
networks and WANs (Wide Area Network) or through the internet.
Variants and Options
– Schematic elements of various variants can be displayed one
upon the other.
o Simplified display since these schematic elements don‘t have to be moved
“artificially”.
– Assigning / Activating options and variants through aliases
o Thus, it is much easier, when using option/variant combinations, to assign
objects to these (predefined) combinations.
– Saving configurations
o The configuration defining which options/variants are active and inactive,
can be saved to an external file.
o Default definitions can thus easily be copied between several projects.
Table Modification
– The basic focus is set to quickly and easily edit even large
project data.
– Project data is:
o Sheets
o Devices
o Connections / wires / pins
– This kind of data can easily and reasonably be edited using
tables.
– Excel-like working.
Table Modification
• Global Functionality and Table Structure
– The first row contains a filter.
o When typing in the filter row, the system immediately starts filtering
o Wildcards are possible
– Arranging columns in any way.
– Sorting by columns.
– Data transfer to other cells by “selecting and dragging cell
downwards”.
– Multi selecting several rows.
– Adding additional columns with attributes/texts.
– Deleting columns.
– Exporting tables as CSV file.
Table Modification
– When attributes are displayed in columns that cannot be edited
(e.g. component information from database in the Device table),
these columns are grayed out and locked against modification.
– When attributes multiply exist with an object, these attributes are
displayed in several columns.
– Context menus with corresponding commands are available with
selected rows.
– Jumping between table and tree display.
Table Modification
• Table Features
– Sheets
o New sheets can be created directly in the table.
– Devices
o New components from the database can be loaded
to the Device table via Drag&Drop.
– Pins / Connections
o
o
o
o
Wires / cables can be placed / removed.
Inline connectors can be placed.
Disconnect terminals can be placed.
Not unique connections can be “transformed”
to unique connections.
Panel
– Highlighting snap points while placing / moving
– Exact control of
placement position
(dipping)
Panel
– Wire display
independent of
circuit diagram
– Side views of
components
Panel
– Outer diameter of wires
o Additionally defining the outer diameter of the wire, and thus more exact
calculation of the cable duct‘s filling degree
– Dynamic Models
o Models can be defined as changeable
in the database.
This enables changing the model‘s size
in the panel project later.
o Reasonable, e.g. with mounting rails that are
dynamically produced depending on the size
and thus cannot be predefined in the database
with every possible .
3D Panel
– 3D output directly via Direct3D
o (only OpenGL so far)
– STEP models displayed
3D Panel
– Simplified placement possibilities in 3D.
– Defining models as “invisible”
o controlled through
levels.
– Printing / exporting 3D views
as image.
Functional Design Editor
– New Module – in addition to E³.Cable
o Enables quick delineation of functions and their effect
to the product (Rapid Prototyping)
o Provides additional documentation – the functional schematic
o Decouples “repercussion”
from the wiring plan to the
functional schematic
(“straight forward design”)
Simulation with SABER
– Controlling through E³.series toolbar
– Creating circuit diagrams in E³.series
– Selecting components for simulation
and transfer to Cosmos Scope
– Simulation in Cosmos Scope
– Retransferring voltage and current
back to E³.series and updating
attributes on connections.
Revision Management
– Revisioning Subprojects
o Revision management with logic and graphic comparison
of different project states.
o Besides revisioning of complete projects
it‘s now possible to handle subprojects
as well.
o Flexibly configurably for
various applications.
