What does “facilitative”
mean?

• to make easier or less difficult;
help forward (an action, a
process, etc.).
• to assist the progress of (a
person).
The Facilitative Response
Facilitation is viewed both as an art and a
science.
Most importantly, it should be viewed as a
set of skills
that can be learned and practiced.
Although it is important to know facilitative
techniques,
the emphasis should be on the application of
these
Facilitative Communication:
Open communication that encourages
sharing and
participation
Non-Facilitative Communication:
Closed communication dominates
interaction and
discourages sharing and participation
Facilitative Responses
Facilitative communication and responses
involve a
series of skills that can be learned and
practiced.
Facilitative responses are basically the various
ways that
you respond and interact with your mentee.
There are different types of facilitative
responses, and
although all are useful, some are more effective
Advising & Evaluating
Telling your mentee how to solve the
problem.
