Communication Studies

I chose to make my CS 10001 presentation
focus on my major at Kent State University
which is, Communication Studies.
•
The reason I chose my major is because it is
more involved with computers than my minor
is.

Communication Studies as a
Major
• Communication studies is a
45 credit program of study.
• There are four tracks of study
in the communications major
these areas consist of:
organizational, public,
interpersonal, & applied.
Organizational Communication
•
I picked the organizational track for my
communication major because it focuses
more on what I would like to do when I
graduate.
•
The Organizational Track Requires the
following courses: COMM 25863, COMM
35600, COMM 35864, COMM 45865, COMM
46091
•
This track will take me 5 semesters to
complete.
Why Being A Communication
Major Is Great
•
The number one reason why being a
communication major is great is because
there are a wide variety of jobs available for
communications majors.
•

When I Graduate
•
I would like to pursue a career in event
planning, promotional work, or special event
coordinating.
•
My minor is public relations, I would also
consider a career in public relations if a job in
event planning is not available.
Ultimate Dream Job
• The job I would like to have when I
graduate is to coordinate special events
for an outdoor/fishing/hunting company.

Communication Studies &
Computers
•
Communication Studies uses computers
almost everyday.
•
In my Foundations Of Communication class
we have lab every Wednesday.
•
We use computers & the internet in our lab.
Using The Computer In Lab
•
In our lab we use the computer for creating
PowerPoint presentations, writing papers,
finishing assignments, and creating
WebPages.
Using The Internet In Lab
•
In our lab we use the internet to take quizzes
online, create newsgroups, add ourselves to
listservs, use online databases to research for
projects and papers, sending emails, and
create a webpage for our career.
•

Using The Computer In The
Future
•
When I graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in
Communication Studies I am sure that I will
use the computer in life everyday.
•
Just being a student right now I use the
computer on an average of at least six to
eight hours everyday.
Knowing The Computer
•
I believe being computer savvy in today’s
world is an important factor when pertaining
to a job.
•
Knowing how to use internet is especially
important since most of today’s resources are
located on the internet.
•
Also knowing all the Microsoft programs are
vitally important for attaining a job.
Using Computers In My Future
•
If I do get a job in special events coordinating
or promotional work I am sure that I will use
the computer for the majority of my work.
•
I will use the computer to write reports, create
media & press kits, schedule events, keep
track of customers, create brochures, and
maybe even create WebPages.
•
I am sure that I will use the internet everyday,
especially to keep direct communication with
my public. Checking my email is something
that I do now and will continue to do daily.
Also I will use the internet to research and
update WebPages.
Suggestions About Using
Computers
•
I would recommend to all who do not have
much knowledge of computers to attain
some. Computers are necessary in today’s
world and will not be disappearing in the
future.
•
Another suggestion would be to take as many
computer classes as available because the
more experience that you have with them the
better off you are, especially when it comes to
a job position.
Other Suggestions
•
Knowing your computer well will help you
work better with it when you need to.
•
Also knowing shortcuts to things on your
computer will help your work go by faster.
•
Another very important thing to know when it
comes to working with computers is how to
type well, personally this has helped me a lot
in my life. Because of how well my typing
skills are I have attained a transcribing job
that pays very well and is flexible with my
college schedule.
How I Can Help With The
Knowledge Of Computers
•
Some things I could help with would be
teaching typing classes, Microsoft word
classes, and webpage building classes.
•
I could help others by producing a website
with tips, provide my email address for
questions, and make a guest book page for
comments.
