Beijing is the capital of
China
Beijing
• Beijing is a metropolis in northern China and
the capital of the People's Republic of China.
Beijing is China‘s second largest city after
Shanghai, with more than 17 million people.
Beijing is recognized as the political,
educational, and cultural center of the
People's Republic of China. The city hosted the
2008 Olympic Games.
Shanghai
Shanghai is the largest city in China, and one of the
largest metropolitan areas in the world, with over 20
million people. It is located on China's central eastern
coast at the mouth of the Yangtze River. In 2005
Shanghai became the world's largest cargo port. Like
Hong Kong, Shanghai predominates in the economic
field.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a small island off the coast of
southeast China. Consisting of a peninsula and
236 islands on China's south coast and enclosed
by the Pearl River Delta and South China Sea,
Hong Kong has developed into one of the world's
top financial centers. At night its bright neon glow
and glittering skyscrapers are one of China’s most
famous views.
Weather and Climate
• The climate and weather are varied in China
because of the landscape, size, location, and
many more reasons. The climate of China varies
greatly. The northern zone has summer daytime
temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius
and winters of Arctic severity. The central zone
has a temperate continental climate with very hot
summers and cold winters. The southern zone
has a subtropical climate with very hot summers
and mild winters.
Food
There are many types of food in
China. There are dumplings, fish, and
many other kinds of food. Their basic
diet is rice and noodles and various
meats and vegetables to go with the
rice and noodles.
Religion and Beliefs
China has many religions, including
Taoism, Christianity, Confucianism,
Buddhism, and many other religion
and beliefs. One definition of
Buddhism is a religion based on the
teachings of the Buddha.
Dynasties of China
The dynasties of China are the Shang,
Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, Tang, and many
more. These dynasties ruled over
China for long and short amounts of
time. Some were strong and some
were weak. Many things happened
when each one ruled.
The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall is a barrier created by
Shi Huangdi. It was used to stop
Nomads from invading. The 1st
section was made in the 600’s BC.
The wall is 1,500 miles (2,414
kilometers).the building process of
the wall took many lives trying to
build it. It was finished in toward the
end of the Ming Dynasty.
The Forbidden City
• The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the
Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is located in
the middle of Beijing, China, and now houses the Palace
Museum. For almost five centuries, it served as the home of
the Emperor and his household, as well as the ceremonial and
political centre of Chinese government. It was built from 1406
to 1420 by Emperor Yung Lo. The Forbidden City measures
over seven million square feet. It has 9,999 rooms because
Chinese people think the number nine is lucky.
Shi Huangdi
• Emperor Shi Huangdi was the first emperor to
unify all of China. He lived from 259 BCE – 210
BCE. He expanded what would become the
Great Wall. Shi Huangdi was one of the most
powerful rulers in Chinese History. He is
remembered for his building programs. His
tomb is guarded by an estimated amount of
over 2,000 warriors.
Physical Geography
China covers nearly four million
square miles, about the same size as
the United States. One of the physical
barriers that separates China from
other countries is a harsh desert, the
Gobi. The two great rivers of China
are the Huang He, and the Yellow
River. One of the great mountains in
China is the Qinling Shandi range in
the Plateau of Tibet.
Emperors of China
• From the Qin to Qing, there have been about
400 emperors. Not all of these Emperors are
recognized as legitimate. Among these
emperors, 10% are seen as able administrators
while 10% are generally classified as
incompetent rulers. Among some of these
famous emperors are Qin Shi Huang Kublai
Khan.

Chinese Music, Theater, and
Dance
The Chinese Music, theater, and
dance and very cultural and
interesting. They have rappers, rock,
ballets, plays, and other things. Most
of the plays include a lot of culture.
Everything is in Chinese.
Chinese Sports
China has many sports that they
participate in. They do karaoke, kung
fu, ping-pong, basketball, gymnastics,
soccer, horseracing, and many
others. Just recently, they hosted the
2008 Olympics in August in Beijing.
Chinese Art
Art inspires China in many ways. They
made many kinds of art such as the
bird nest (a type of home), ancient
art made from ink, and many other
forms of art. Some art pieces are
made of ivory, jade, terracotta (fired
earth), and bronze.
Chinese Festivals
China has many festivals in their
culture. They have the Dragon Boat
Festival, Chinese New Year, Cheung
Chau festival and some others. They
have many things to entertain them
during their parties. They have
Khampa Dancers, Moon Cakes, and
fireworks for various festivals.
China’s Education System
China has a well-developed
education system. The best schools in
China have computer classes. Eight
out of ten primary and middle
schools are in the countryside. Also,
the first two weeks of college in china
are spent in military uniform learning
marching and basic battlecraft.
Chinese Animals
• China has many very interesting animals. They
like pandas, goldfish, and the Pekingese and
Shar-pei dogs. The Chinese is famous for its
dragons. Dragons don’t exist, but they believe
that they are good luck.
Chinese Inventions
• The Chinese have made many inventions that
still help us through life today. Some of them
include gunpowder, printing, the crossbow,
fireworks, paper, and the compass. About
2,500 years ago, the Chinese came up with a
special way to help them with math. It is
called the abacus. It was the earliest kind of
computer!
Chinese Medicine
• The Chinese have many medicines that are
still used in China. Acupuncture is a method of
which sharp needles are placed into certain
places in the body to try to relieve pain. The
Chinese also think that there are about 650
pressure points in your body. Each point is
linked to an internal organ, so usually, if you
get hit in a pressure point, it will hurt.
