• Known as “The father of the Constitution” because he was the on
who drafted it
• Worked closely with George Washington to develop the new federal
government

• The last president who was a founding father
• Bought Florida from Spain
• The capital of Liberia is named Monrovia in his honor for supporting
the original founding of the colonies that formed it
• He created the Monroe Doctrine which he announced to all other
countries which told them not to intervene with the newly free
country

• Term was from 1825-1829
• Vice president John C. Calhoun
• Was the son of former president John Adams
• He was very good at negotiation
• Became a leading opponent of slave power which meant when a civil
war broke out the president had the power to abolish slavery
• Was very undercut and only got to serve one term because his
enemies were controlling Congress

• Seventh president of the United States of America
• Term was from 1829-1837
• Vice president John C. Calhoun and Martin Van Buren
• Had a personally rivalry with Henry Clay who he greatly disliked
• Had to deal with the threat of Southern state seceding from the
Union and threatened them with military force
• Vetoed the renewal of the Second Bank of the United States
• Supported his Vice president, Van Buren, to run for president and
helped him as much as he could

• Eight president of the United States of America
• Term was from 1837-1841
• Vice president Richard Mentor Johnson
• He was blamed for the Great depression of 1837 some newspapers
even calling him “Martin Van Ruin”
• He wanted the America to not annex Texas
• With the slow increase in popularity of the Whig party, Buren was
voted out of office when he ran again. He lost to a Whig candidate,
William Henry Harrison
