Body Systems Work Together
A. Homeostasis: a process where
the body keeps things the same.
1. The senses in the nervous system
receives feedback from the environment
inside the body ( salt, glucose,
hormones, water) and outside the body
(temperature), and reacts to it.
B. Systems Working Together
1. Respiratory and Circulatory work together to move
oxygen into cell and carbon dioxide out of cells.
2. Digestive and Circulatory work together to break down
foods and bring nutrients to all cell.
3. Nervous and Muscle work together by sending signals
based on the senses to contract muscles and move.
4. Nervous and Endocrine work together by reacting to a
stimulus in the body, and signaling a response, like
sugar level, water level, calcium level, growth, or
sleep.

D. Feedback Loops allow the body
to maintain homeostasis.
1. Positive feedback loops are where the
increase in temperatures outside, cause
in increase in sweat. Both increases!!!
2. Negative feedback loops are where an
increase in leptin hormones causes a
decrease in appetite sensation.
D. Negative Feedback Loop
1. The Endocrine system contains a
gland called the hypothalamus, which
releases a protein hormone, leptin.
2. Leptin is released by fat cells as
they are filled up with extra fat.
3. Leptin goes into the blood to the
brain.
4. The brain turns down the appetite
center, and you won’t feel hungry.

• Looking at day 1 to day 14, decide if this is
a positive feedback loop or a negative
feedback loop. Explain it.
