What was the Atlanta Campaign? • Sherman’s attack on Atlanta • began on May 1864 -September 1864 • Sherman burned all the Confederate supplies along with many of the city’s buildings. Sherman sent a telegraph to inform Pres. Lincoln that he and his army had captured Atlanta In June 1864, the two armies (Grant’s and Lee’s) faced each other in Richmond, fighting for almost a year. To desert means to leave the army without permission. Lee and Grant once fought together in the Union Army. Did Grant still respect Lee despite the fact that he was a Confederate soldier?
