Henry
Purcell lived during the
Baroque Era between 10
September 1659 – 21 November
1695.
He is one of the most famous
English composers.
His music contains influences from
both Italian and French
backgrounds but has a
predominantly English style.
Purcell
is thought to have started composing
from the age of nine however the dates of many
of his works are unknown.
His father died in 1664 which put him in his
Uncle’s care who was said to have taken good
care of him.
Purcell sang in a choir until his voice broke in
1673, when he became assistant to the organbuilder in the Chapel.

Strophic
Form is a type of music structure
known simply as Verse-Chorus.
More technically it means when all
verses/choruses are sung to the same
music.
This means strophic form is often
repetitive, especially in the
accompaniment.
Many
Folks songs in the early 20th
century were written in Strophic form.
