What is the campus climate survey?
● The survey will measure how satisfied respondents are with the IC community.
○ What are their: personal experiences, perceptions, and opinions of institutional
efforts.
● It explores satisfaction on a wide range of topics including what it is like to study,
live, and work here.
○ Sample topics: How safe do you feel on campus? How could you be better
supported in your job? Do you feel valued? How could the college support a
more positive community?
● It measures topics BEYOND diversity and inclusion
○ Sample topics: Should IC offer better facilities? more student support?
caregiver support for employees? improved tenure/promotion process?
What is the campus climate survey?
● It is an ANONYMOUS online survey for all current faculty, staff, and
students.
● It is being conducted by the external consulting firm Rankin & Associates.
● The Climate Study Working Group, made up of students, faculty, and staff,
is assisting the consulting firm with survey design and implementation.
● We are seeking 100% participation from the IC community.
● Rankin & Associates will analyze the survey results and report them to the
campus community.
Why?
● We typically spend more time immersed in our campus community
then we do anywhere else. That experience should be the best it can
be.
● The results of the survey will help identify priorities for the next
president as we continue to develop and advance as an institution.
Why is it important for students?
Why is it important for faculty and staff?
The personal and
professional
development of
employees are
impacted by
campus climate.1
Faculty members who
judge their campus
climate more
positively are more
likely to feel
personally supported
and perceive their
work unit as more
supportive.2
Research underscores
the relationships
between (1) workplace
discrimination and
negative job and career
attitudes and (2)
workplace encounters
with prejudice and lower
health and well-being..3
