Hello Christina,
Great post! I really liked it! Thought you had some
good ideas. I liked your point about the song and dance.
Isn’t that sad? I had no idea that was even a thing! I think
our teacher will like your post, too. You can tell you put a
lot of effort into it. It reminds me of how much I like
singing. When I was a kid, I used to sing all the time, but
now I’m too embarrassed to sing in public. Is that silly?
LOL! Well, anyway, you did a great job.

Hi Christina,
Nice post! I had never thought of the issue like that. I really appreciate
your use of hyperlinks – it helped me find out more information on your
subject – but next time, maybe use only one or two really important
ones. I dunno. They got a little distracting after the fourth or fifth one.
I also really liked the way you phrased your point about the way we
talk about the maltreatment of African-Americans. It just sounds really
smart, haha. I hadn’t realized that before, but now that you mention it,
we do often talk about African-American struggles in terms of
disability.
I have a question, though, about your topic. Are you just going to look
at physical disability, like the crippled Jim Crow, or are you going to
look at mental disability, too? Maybe there something in there that you
could connect to Jim Crow and other caricatures.

CRITERIA FOR GOOD COMMENTS
WHAT IS P.Q.P.?
P: PRAISE


PRAISE some aspect of the blog post, whether it is
the structure/organization, a salient point supported
by strong particulars, a rhetorical strategy (like
asking rhetorical questions at the beginning of the
post to get the reader’s attentions and answering
them throughout the post), or the skillful use of
multimedia
AND give an example of a specific detail about it
that you liked.
Q: QUESTION



Ask the author a pointed QUESTION about the blog
post to complicate the issue.
Unless a point is truly unclear to you, don’t ask for
clarification.
Avoid yes/no questions.
P: POLISH

Suggest a change or idea to consider for next time
to help the author POLISH his/her post. The author
obviously won’t be rewriting this post, so focus on as
global issue that might come up in his or her next
post.

A GOOD RESPONSE
Hi Jen!
Thanks for your comment. I’m glad you liked the way I turned that
phrase about the historical suffering of Af. Ams. I don’t know if you can
tell, but I worked really hard on it!
Now that you mention it, I did go a little crazy with the hyperlinks in this
post. Whoops! Sometimes I, too, get distracted by hyperlinks when
authors include a million of them in their posts. Next time, I’ll only link to
material that is hard to find, like the Library of Congress thingy.
As for your question about mental disability, my answer is yes, I will be
looking into the depiction of African American characters in lit. with
physical and/or mental disabilities. I wanted to focus my research on
just the portrayal of Af. Ams with mental disabilities, but so far I
couldn’t find anything. That doesn’t mean its not out there – I’m just not
looking hard enough! If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears!
