Propaganda in WWII
When World War II
started, some
nations were ready
for war and some
were not. All
nations had to use
propaganda in
order to get their
citizens ready for
war.
Responding to WW II Propaganda
Each piece of media is an example of
propaganda from WWII.
As you view and listen, answer these
questions:
– What country is it from?
– How do you know? Explain your thinking.
– What was the creator trying to say (theme)?
– Who is it meant for (audience)?

When The Lights Go On Again
When the lights go on again all over the world
And the boys are home again all over the world
And rain or snow is all that may fall from the
skies above
A kiss won't mean "goodbye" but "Hello to love"
When the lights go on again all over the world
And the ships will sail again all over the world
Then we'll have time for things like wedding
rings and free hearts will sing
When the lights go on again all over the world
Your Turn
As you observe each example of WWII
propaganda, respond to the questions on
your student worksheet.
After everyone has had time to respond,
we will “buzz” with our table groups about
our thinking.

Any Bonds Today
The tall man with the high hat
and the whiskers on his chin will
soon be knocking at your door
and you ought to be in
The tall man with the high hat will
be coming down your way, get
your savings out when you hear
him shout "Any bonds today?"
Scrape up the most you can
Here comes the freedom man
Asking you to buy a share of
freedom today
Any stamps today?
We'll be blest if we all invest in
the U.S.A.
Here comes the freedom man
Can't make tomorrow's plan
Any bonds today?
Bonds of freedom, that's what I'm Not unless you buy a share of
freedom today
selling
Any bonds today?
Any Bonds Today
First came the Czechs and then
came the Poles
And then the Norwegians with
three million souls
Then came the Dutch, the
Belgians and France
Then all of the Balkans with
hardly a chance
It's all in the Book if only you
look
It's there if you read the text
They fell every one at the point
of a gun
America mustn't be next
Any bonds today?
Bonds of freedom, that's
what I'm selling
Any bonds today?
Scrape up the most you can
Here comes the freedom
man asking you to buy a
share of freedom today
Any bonds today?
All you give will be spent to
live in the Yankee way
Scrape up the most you can
Here comes the freedom
man asking you to buy a
share of freedom today

Propaganda in WWII
Germany, Japan,
and the United
States all used
different themes of
propaganda, but
which was the
best?
Your Task
Your group will be analyzing propaganda posters
from three of the main participants in World War II:
Germany, Japan, and the United States. While
analyzing you will be searching for different themes
in each of these posters.
Your group will be creating your own World War II
propaganda poster from one of the three nations.
When creating your poster, be sure to use the
themes from the country you have selected.
